A decade ago, friends Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon vanished while on a hike on Panama's 'El Pianista' trail.
They went missing on 1 April, 2014 and it was several months before body parts were found.
Kremers, 21, and Froon, 22, had been planning the hike for months and are believed to have travelled through a forested area near the Baru volcano in Boquete, Panama.
However, they were never seen alive again and despite an extensive search being launched, it wasn't until June that more clues were uncovered.
Someone handed over Froon's backpack, saying they found it by a riverbank, which contained money, water, two phones and a camera.
The two women went missing on 1 April, 2014, but phone activity showed they were active for days afterwards. (YouTube)
The phones showed that about six hours into the hike, both phones had been used to try and call the emergency services, but a lack of signal meant the calls never got through.
The women had dialled 112, an international emergency number, and 911, Panama's national emergency number.
Further investigation found that Froon's phone, a Samsung Galaxy S III, ran out of battery on 4 April and was not used again, while Kremers iPhone 4 was turned on and off at times between 5 April and 11 April, but the correct PIN code was never entered.
That could mean that someone was entering the wrong PIN, or that nobody was entering a PIN and was just checking to see if there was any signal.
The iPhone belonging to Kremers was switched off for the last time on 11 April.
Photos found included ones of their belongings laid out on a rock. (TVN2)
Among the photos found on the camera were disturbing ones which suggested that there had been an accident.
There were photos of the women's belongings all laid out on some rocks, while another showed the back of Kremers' head.
A number of pictures had been taken in the early hours of the morning of 8 April, with dozens of flash photography pictures snapped between 1am and 4am that day while it was dark.
The scant information left behind has resulted in plenty of theories of what happened to the two women.
The discovery of Froon's backpack resulted in fresh searches near where it had been found, and denim shorts belonging to Kremer had been found on top of a rock on the opposite bank of the river, a few kilometres down from where the backpack had been found.
Two months later, a pelvis and a boot with a foot inside were found, and testing confirmed that the remains belonged to the two women.Featured Image Credit: Youtube/TVN2

Bedsheets photo made police suspicious as they took closer look after honeymooner 'vanished' on cruise
In the early hours of 5 July, 2005, George Smith went missing on the cruise ship Brilliance of the Sea
A photo of some bedsheets stirred the suspicion of police who were investigating the mysterious disappearance of a honeymooner who was onboard a cruise ship.
George Smith, 26, completely ‘vanished’ in the early hours of 5 July, 2005, after boarding the cruise ship Brilliance of the Sea for his honeymoon.
George and his new wife, Jennifer Hagal, tied the knot in Rhode Island, US, just 11 days before he vanished while on the Mediterranean cruise, which they planned to stay on for two weeks.

During a cruise stop off in Italy, George met the Askin family, which included a 20-year-old called Josh Askin.
Back on board the ship in the early hours of 5 July, Jennifer and George went to the ship’s casino, where cameras captured the last pictures of him alive.
Josh Askin, along with three other men on the ship - Rusty Kofman, Greg Rozenberg and Zach Rozenberg - all told the police that they stayed up partying with George, before taking him back to his cabin in the very early hours of the morning, and putting him to bed.
These men were the last to ever see George, and their story doesn’t seem to match up with the cruise’s records.
The four men interviewed by police who said they took George back to his cabin and put him to bed. (CBS)
They claim they took his shoes off and put him in his bed before going back to one of their own cabins and ordering room service, though the cruise ship's records don't show a log of this.
Jennifer was then found at 4:30am, passed out in a hallway on the cruise, but has little recollection of what happened after leaving the casino.
However, there was a lot of suspicion around George’s death - especially after blood stains were soon found on his bedsheets, as well as on the side of the ship.
This pointed the police in the direction of concluding that he had fallen overboard.

A chair was also found placed against the railings in their cabin, which made the captain believe this was the cause of George's death.
But nothing in this theory explains the bloodied bedsheets.
These stains have remained unexplained to this day, and his body has never been found, meaning that whilst George is presumed dead, he is technically still a ‘missing’ person.
Jennifer ended up supporting the claim that George had fallen overboard, and in 2007, agreed to a $1.1 million (£862,000) settlement with cruise operator Royal Caribbean.

She gave a statement which said that George might have fallen off the ship while trying to balance on the balcony in their cabin.
While his family disputed this version of events, they reached their own settlement with Royal Caribbean in 2011.
As a result, the case was closed in 2015.Featured Image Credit: Royal Caribbean / Facebook

Inside 'world's toughest jail' where British backpacker has been left to rot and inmates 'buy their own cells'
The prison is unlike any other in the world
The world's most dangerous yet bizarre prisons of all time that used to be a tourist attraction is known for its peculiar rules and ways of working.
It works in stark contrast to a lot of other prisons in the world, as it offers inmates a better life behind bars, depending on how much 'rent' they pay.
It has since closed its doors to visitors, but the intrigue around it still stands today.
Inside The World's Toughest Prisons Season 7 - Official Netflix Trailer
San Pedro prison is located in La Paz in Bolivia, the world's highest capital city at 3,650m above sea level.
It's so bizarrely ran, that if you pay more for your cells, you can get features such as Jacuzzis, based on a star rating - like a Trip Advisor behind bars.
But the reality is, not a lot of prisoners have the money to afford these luxuries, and several, such as recent British backpacker John Henshaw, have been left to suffer behind bars after spending most of his money on legal fees.
After being caught with a small amount of cannabis at La Paz International Airport in February, he was thrown into San Pedro, and will have to wait up to 90 days for his case to be looked at.
The father-of-one is being given money by the British Embassy there, but not enough to get robbed in the dangerous prison.
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson told LADbible: “We are providing consular support to a British man detained in Bolivia and are in contact with the local authorities.”
LADbible has reached out to the Ministry of Justice in Bolivia for comment.
But he wasn't the only Brit that has had an experience in there, as Thomas McFadden did some time behind bars after being caught with five kilograms of cocaine in his luggage in 1996.
The prison is surrounded by four high, thick walls. 7NEWS
When McFadden was brought to the prison, he was told that he would have to pay a five dollar entrance fee and $5,000 (£4,000) rent, as he slowly discovered his odd set-up.
He explained to The Mirror: "Even though he knew I had no money - the major told me I would need to buy my own prison cell,
"I could never afford the $5,000 they wanted, which I later found out was way over the odds."
Based on this interaction, he thought the prison would be horrible throughout, but he found coloured doors, balconies, flower beds and more in San Pedro.
Rated cells go up to 5.5 stars, with some rooms even featuring carpets, microwaves, libraries and more features, while prisoners could also get a trim at the barbers, or to the on-site brothel, as sex workers could pay guards a fee to enter.
That's not all though, there are also restaurants and churches on-site to enjoy, as prisoners can try to make their way up the class system by doing work such as shoe-shining, carpentry, or even dentistry.
The whole place is essentially run by the prisoners, as they make their own rules such as deadly executions as a form of punishment, and ruthless prisoners even target the poorer ones, subjecting them to beatings.
McFadden further explained: “It didn’t stop until I could fight back. I hardly went out to begin with because I was worried what would happen,
"I would go to the washrooms really early in the morning, so that I wasn’t attacked."
La Paz is the highest city in the world. 7NEWS
It is really tough on the majority of prisoners, but it has previously been reported by Escape.com.au that inmates' families can come and go as they please, as the cells are bar-less and the guards, who are non-uniform, are stationed outside just to stop any possible escapes.
Australian lawyer, Rusty Young, had also visited the prison in 2000 after bribing his way in after his curiosity got the better of him, living there for a full four months.
He said that sex offenders would be brought in with a different ritual, and they are then beaten, drowned, electrocuted or stabbed for their heinous crimes.
McFadden even used to offer backpackers to stay the prison instead of being in a hostel, and set up a walking tour for tourists before the prison stopped allowing it.
“Sometimes we had as many as 70 people visiting," McFadden previously said.
"It did cause some jealousy with other inmates who wanted to get in on the act, but I had the advantage of being able to speak English and had already bribed the guards. They were happy as they got their cut.”
Walking tours outside the prison are still available though, where 3000 prisoners and their families live.Featured Image Credit: Youtube / 7NEWS Spotlight

Family of woman who went missing on cruise convinced photo is their daughter
The 23-year-old disappeared after partying at the ship's nightclub
The family of a woman who went missing from a cruise ship 27 years ago are convinced they've found photographs of their missing daughter.
On 21 March 1998, 23-year-old Amy Lynn Bradley, from Petersburg, Virginia in the US, boarded a Royal Caribbean International cruise from Puerto Rico to Curaçao with her mum, dad and brother.
But, just three days into their holiday onboard the Rhapsody of the Seas ship, things took a sinister turn.
In the early hours of 24 March, Amy and her brother Brad headed to the ship's nightclub to go dancing.

Records show that Brad returned to their cabin at around 3:35 am, with Amy joining him five minutes later. The siblings spoke for a short while then headed off to bed.
At 5:30 am, their father Ron checked in on his children and saw Amy sleeping on a lounge chair on the cabin's private balcony.
But half an hour later, she was gone.
The Royal Caribbean crew searched every inch of the vessel and the Netherlands Antilles Coast Guard conducted a four-day search in the surrounding waters, but Amy was never found.

Initially, authorities suspected that the 23-year-old had fallen overboard and drowned. But this was soon discredited as Amy was known to be a strong swimmer.
And, in the months that followed her disappearance, there were multiple possible sightings of Amy in Curaçao.
In August 1998, a tourist claimed to have seen Amy walking along a beach with two men. They said she was constantly trying to get their attention until they lost sight of her at a nearby café.
And, in January 1999, a member of the US Navy claimed a woman in a brothel said she was Amy and asked him for help.
Seven years later in 2005, the Bradleys received chilling images that indicated she may have been sex trafficked.

The images - which were publicly revealed on Dr. Phil after being provided to authorities as a 'tip-off' - showed a woman strongly resembling Amy, looking uncomfortable as she posed in just her underwear.
Unfortunately, the tip-off never came to anything.
Now, in a renewed effort to find their missing daughter, Amy's family are offering a reward of $25,000 (£19,700) for help with the cold case.
The FBI have released age-processed images, generated using AI, to show what Amy may look like today. (FBI)
"We get up every single day with the thought that maybe today, we’ll find Amy," Iva Bradley, her mother, said.

Model left terrified after fan sent her a photo of herself while spying on her in the gym
A terrifying moment for OnlyFans star Alicia Davis who was simply going about her own business
A model has opened up on the moment she was harassed by one of her fans, who ended up sending her covert pictures he had taken of her without her knowledge.
The creepy experience happened while Alicia Davis was at the gym going about her own business, with the 32-year-old assuming the facility was a safe space.
But things went sour when one of her fans, who subscribed to her OnlyFans content, messaged her telling her he 'loved what she was wearing today'.
The images were next, with photos of her taken by the unknown man in the gym and sent to her while she was working out.
It's why Alicia, a former prison officer, has taken a no-nonsense approach to interacting with fans and people who subscribe to her adult content.
"I had recently joined a new gym and one of the other members found out who I was and what I did for work. While I was at the gym I started getting messages on OnlyFans from a fan I had not yet had much engagement with," the Australian explained.
"The messages were saying things like - 'You look so good right now' - and - 'I love what you are wearing today' - plus other messages that were clearly coming from a person in the gym as they were describing me at that exact moment.
Alicia Davis was creeped out by a subscriber to her OnlyFans (Instagram / littlebrunettebaddie2.0)
"He even at one point sent a photo of me to myself. I hated this! This was a major boundary crossed. It felt incredibly uncomfortable to know that someone was watching me and sending messages like this and I had no idea who it was.
"I told them to come up and say hi to me so I knew who they were but they didn't. I asked them not to send messages like this while I was in the gym if they were not going to come and introduce themselves."
Alicia - who went viral early this year after being hospitalised with a somewhat bizarre, eyeopening injury - now won't share her live location when going out for a meal or on a trip.
Instead, she feels forced to post images from these trips after she's left a location to stop any potential overzealous fans in the area.
Alicia Davis swapped working in the prison system for OnlyFans (Alicia Davis)
Her no-nonsense approach saw the man who harassed her in the gym eventually reveal himself to her. Alicia said: "The following day while at the gym I started getting the messages again.
"I went into a different area of the gym because I was starting to feel really uncomfortable and started considering if I even wanted to come to this gym anymore. And then thought, no. I'm going to put a stop to this.
"I told them to stop and think about how inappropriate and uncomfortable their messages would be making me feel. I said that when I am not online and I am here in my personal time I expect a level of respect and more appropriate human behaviour.
"Surprisingly, they ended up coming up to me and apologising. I think he was enjoying some kind of mysterious fantasy but forgot to consider that this would be quite uncomfortable for me as I am in my personal time."
The fan apologised to her in person (Alicia Davis)
He still sends her unsolicited messages on Instagram, Alicia has revealed, but she has taken a decision to ignore them.
"This same person is no longer a subscriber to my OnlyFans and I do not respond or interact with him. But he is still always at the gym with his wife and after every session we happen to both be there at the same time, he continues to message me on Instagram telling me how good I looked that day," she said.
"He told me during a prior conversation that his wife asked him if he thought I was hot and how much he liked watching my videos, so I worry sometimes about his wife approaching me and starting something purely based on how her husband behaves towards me.
"This has been the one and only fan that I have really not enjoyed engaging with."
They went missing on 1 April, 2014 and it was several months before body parts were found.
