Dave Grohl admits cheating on his wife and fathering a secret baby

Foo Fighters lead singer and guitarist Dave Grohl has revealed that he cheated on his wife, leading to the birth of a child 'outside' of his marriage.

The former drummer of Nirvana came out with the jaw-dropping confession on Tuesday (10 September) that has left several music fans in shock.

Explaining the finer details on social media, Grohl also revealed in his confession that he was begging his wife for forgiveness amid the shock news.

The 55-year-old musician took to Instagram, posting: "I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We're grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together. Dave."

Widely regarded as one of the nicest and down-to-earth personalities in the music business, Grohl has been an ever-present in the industry since Nirvana's rise to fame in the late 1980s, enjoying continued fame with the rock band that he formed in 1994, Foo Fighters.

Grohl has been married to model and TV producer Jordyn Blum, 48, since 2003, with the couple having three daughters together; Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15 and Ophelia Saint, 10.

The musician and his wife have been publicly photographed together just a few months ago, as the pair attended Wimbledon in London in the summer.

His marriage to Jordyn is his second, having been married to photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood from 1994 to 1997, with Grohl later admitting that he cheated on her as well.

Grohl and the other members of Foo Fighters recently hit out at Donald Trump for using their music during his presidential election campaign, allegedly without permission.

The band's song 'My Hero' was played at an Arizona rally recently, as a spokesperson for the band told PA news agency: “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were they would not have granted it.”

Along with Celine Dion, they join a long list of music acts who have publicly spoken out against Trump for using their music without consent, with the latter calling him out after he played her classic song 'My Heart Will Go On' during a campaign rally earlier this September.

Irish bloke has 'proof' he's reason Foo Fighters exist after realising Dave Grohl spoke about him in interview
Foo Fighters fans might want to thank Lorcan Dunne for an awful lot...

A lad from Ireland reckons he's the reason Foo Fighters exist after frontman Dave Grohl once spoke about their chance meeting in an interview, and he has the proof to back it up.

Fans of the iconic rock band might want to thank Lorcan Dunne for an awful lot after he supposedly inspiried the formation of the Foo Fighters.

Dunne's cousin took to X to explain how his relative was 'kind of an important' factor in why the band was formed back in 1994.

Eoin Tighe said he stumbled across an old video of Grohl, who opened up about what made him pick up the drum sticks again following the death of his Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain in April 1994.

To help battle with the grief, Grohl said in an interview that he had to 'disappear' and go to the 'most remote place on Earth'.

"I've been before. It's so beautiful there. You really feel like you're at the end of the Earth," he said of The Ring of Kerry in Ireland.

"I was driving around in my rental car on a country road and I saw this hitchhiker kid. And I thought, 'Well, maybe I'll pick him up'. And as I got closer to him, I saw that he had a Kurt Cobain t-shirt on.

"It was Kurt's face looking back at me... in the middle of nowhere!"

Here's when it gets interesting, as Lorcan explained: "We were down on the Beara Peninsula on a holiday and we hitched up to this place to go swimming.

"I was running and I saw a car there, so I thought I'd run up and hitch. When I was hitching, I looked into who was sitting in the passenger seat - but it was David Grohl.

"I didn't recognise him firstly, but I saw this look of shock on the guy's face... and I had a Nirvana t-shirt on with Kurt Cobain on it. It was black tie dye, the one with Kurt where he has the mascara on his face.

"I saw the look of shock and the next thing, the car just tore off, away. And I turned round like, 'That was David Grohl lad!' Nobody believed me!"

And while not many believed the Irishman - with many continuing to doubt the tale all these years later - he certainly has the proof in the form of a fabulously retro photograph of him hiking wearing said t-shirt.

The proof is in the pudding. (X/@eointighe)

This interaction, along with the lad's choice of t-shirt, helped inspire the formation of the legendary rock band.

Meanwhile, cousin Eoin wrote on Thursday (15 August): "So my legend of a cousin Lorcan just realised he was kind of important to the creation of @foofighters @FooFightersUK.

"He saw a video by Dave Grohl talking about why he got back to work after a visit to Ireland. Lorcan was out hitchhiking wearing his nirvana top when Dave stopped."

Irishman discovers he may be reason Foo Fighters exist after realising Dave Grohl is talking about him in interview
Lorcan Dunne's incredible tale will make you think twice about what t-shirt you put on in the morning

If you're a fan of the Foo Fighters, it seems like you owe this fella a pint - as it turns out he could be responsible for the formation of the iconic rock band, and without him, it might have never happened.

So if you see a bloke called Lorcan Dunne walking about on the streets of Ireland, make sure you give him a pat on the back for inadvertently sticking a rocket up Dave Grohl's backside when he needed it the most.

Music fans have been left stunned after a bloke took to Twitter, now known as X, to explain that his cousin had come to the realisation that he was 'kind of an important' cog in the wheel of the creation of the Foo Fighters in 1994.

Eoin Tighe explained that his relative Lorcan had stumbled across a video of Grohl discussing what prompted him to pick up his drum sticks again following the death of his bandmate Kurt Cobain and the subsequent dissolution of Nirvana.

And when he was listening to the musician explain how a 'soul-searching' trip to The Ring of Kerry in Ireland prompted him to get back in the studio, the Irishman realised that he played a huge part in it.

In an interview, Grohl told how he decided to 'disappear' and go to the 'most remote place on Earth' as he battled with his grief following Cobain's passing in April 1994 at the age of 27.

The rocker said: "I've been before. It's so beautiful there. You really feel like your at the end of the Earth.

In a video shared by Eoin on social media, Lorcan then explained his version of events on that fateful night in the 90s.

He recalled: "We were down on the Beara Peninsula on a holiday and we hitched up to this place to go swimming."

"I was running and I saw a car there, so I thought I'd run up and hitch," Lorcan said. "When I was hitching, I looked into who was sitting in the passenger seat - but it was David Grohl.

"I didn't recognise him firstly, but I saw this look of shock on the guy's face... and I had a Nirvana t-shirt on with Kurt Cobain on it.

"It was black tie dye, the one with Kurt where he has the mascara on his face.

"I saw the look of shock and the next thing, the car just tore off, away. And I turned round like, 'That was David Grohl lad!'

"Nobody believed me!"

Lorcan's pal pointed out that it was pretty wild to think that the Ohio-born star was mooching around 'in the middle of nowhere' and revealed that he had actually said at the time: "I hope he didn't see that t-shirt."
Grohl credits the encounter in Ireland with giving him the push to make music again. (Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Foo Fighters)

But apparently the bloke's fashion choice unwittingly triggered a chain of events which led to the conception of a legendary rock band, the Foo Fighters.

Lorcan went onto explain that he had spotted the video of Grohl's interview a couple of weeks ago when it clicked.

He added: "I was like, 'There you go, that was me'."

But how did this all lead to the formation of the Foo Fighters, I hear you cry?

Well, even though he left Lorcan and his pals in his dust and tore off into the night, Grohl seemingly took the encounter as a sign that his beloved bandmate would have wanted him to continue their shared passion.

So my legend of a cousin Lorcan just realised he was kind of important to the creation of @foofighters @FooFightersUK He saw a video by Dave Grohl talking about why he got back to work after a visit to Ireland. Lorcan was out hitchhiking wearing his nirvana top when Dave stopped

Explaining the impact seeing Cobain's face on the t-shirt had on him, the musician continued: "I realised like, 'Oh. I can't outrun this'. So I need to go home and f**king get back to work. And so I did."

Class - and social media users seem to think so to.

One praised it as 'utterly brilliant', while another added: "It had to be Ireland, and nowhere else. Such an epic story."

A third wrote: "That is so cool that he ended up learning later about how much it affected him."

A fourth joked: "Sometimes heroes wear capes. And sometimes, a great rock T-shirt."

And a fifth chimed in: "What a great story! I love that you found out. One of the coolest bands ever, the Foo Fighters."

Nice one, Lorcan!Featured Image Credit: X/eointighe

People are just working out what Foo Fighters band name really means
Frontman Dave Grohl reckons it is 'the stupidest f**king band name in the world' in hindsight

Although you might already have a list of baby names in your notes ready to go for if, and when, you become a parent at some point, coming up with a title for a music group can be a bit trickier.

Yes, your bundle of joy will have to wade through the rest of eternity with the moniker you decide on, but bands have to keep in mind that their name is part of their entire legacy that will long outlive them.

That's on top of the fact they're hoping to see it in big lights and printed on merch, posters as well as hopefully vintage-looking t-shirts one day - so it's got to be a good one.

So spare a thought for poor Dave Grohl, who has seemingly been left wishing he spent a bit more time stewing over what to call his infamous ensemble, Foo Fighters, for this exact reason.

Despite the fact we've never been quite clear on what the hell a foo is and why the band were fighting it, we all just sort of embraced it - but in hindsight, the musician reckons it is 'the stupidest f**king band name in the world'.

He came up with it after Nirvana disbanded in 1994 following the death of frontman Kurt Cobain, so you can imagine the pressure was on to come up with a name which rivalled that.

But unfortunately for Grohl, he didn't have anyone around to bounce ideas off at the time, as he actually started Foo Fighters as a one-man-project that same year in Seattle.

The rocker, 55, previously told how he was inundated with offers to work with various different artists who wanted him to join their music groups - with reports claiming Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were the frontrunners.

But he wasn't keen on the idea of damning himself to sit behind a drum kit for the rest of his career.

In a previous interview, Grohl said: "I was supposed to just join another band and be a drummer the rest of my life.

"I thought that I would rather do what no one expected me to do."

So, with a pocketful of dreams and a s**t ton of emotions he needed to get off of his chest, he marched into the Robert Lang Studios in Washington in October 1994 and ended up creating an album's worth of songs in just five days.

Grohl played every instrument himself and sang every vocal on the tracks, before later handing out cassette copies to his pals to get some feedback - but he wasn't quite ready for the world to hear them just yet.

He had intended to stay anonymous and decided to release his music in a limited-run under the name Foo Fighters - as he hoped that because it was plural, people would think it was made by several people.

But where on earth did the music star actually get the name from?

The rocker had an unusual source of inspiration for the band's name. (Gina Wetzler/Redferns)

Well, interestingly, Grohl was actually inspired by Allied aircraft pilots who used the term during World War II to describe unidentified flying objects they spotted in the skies which they presumed were secret weapons deployed by enemy forces.

According to reports, the US 415th Night Fighter Squadron thought up the phrase in November 1944.

It is believed that the Bristol Beaufighter crew - made up of pilot Edward Schlueter, radar observer Donald J. Meiers, and intelligence officer Fred Ringwald - were flying along the Rhine north of Strasbourg when they noticed some 'UFOs'.

Apparently, they described seeing 'eight to 10 bright orange lights off the left wing…flying through the air at high speed' and Meiers decided to invent a moniker for them.

The radar observer is said to have used a 'nonsense word' used by characters in the Smokey Stover American firefighter cartoon, foo fighters, to refer to the UFOs.

Grohl later said of the band name: "Had I actually considered this to be a career, I probably would have called it something else, because it's the stupidest f**king band name in the world."

Glastonbury crowd in tears as Dave Grohl dedicates song to Taylor Hawkins
The crowd got emotional at the tribute to Hawkins, who passed away in March 2022

Dave Grohl reduced some Glastonbury attendees to tears after dedicating a song to his late bandmate Taylor Hawkins.

The Foo Fighters surprised festival-goers at Worthy Farm today (23 June) when the band walked out on stage during a slot dedicated to the mystery band The Churnups.

Their appearance came after guesswork which plagued guests ahead of the festival this weekend, when The Churnups appeared on Glastonbury’s line-up sheet as part of a huge night of music which also includes Royal Blood and the Arctic Monkeys.
BBC

Speculation has been rife since the mystery band was confirmed, with many music fans convinced it would be the Foo Fighters who would appear when it came time for The Churnups to take the stage.

This belief was fuelled by a letter posted on social media by the Foo Fighters earlier this month, which read: "It feels so good to see you, churning up these emotions together."

After entertaining the crowd with a number of their hits, Grohl definitely churned up some emotions as he mentioned Hawkins, who passed away in March 2022, and dedicated their popular song 'Everlong' to their bandmate.

"I'd like to dedicate this one to Mr. Taylor Hawkins. So let's sing this one loud and clear for Mr Taylor," he said.
BBC

The tribute had fans in tears and even appeared to move Grohl himself, as the musician seemed to choke up at the reaction to the song.

Fans watching at home were just as overwhelmed at the move, with one Twitter user writing: "Dave Grohl dedicating 'Everlong' to Taylor Hawkins has me in pieces."

Another wrote: "Held it together for most of @foofighters set until Dave dedicated Everlong to Taylor."
Twitter/@dannybrothers

Following the loss of Hawkins in 2022, the Foo Fighters announced that Josh Freese would be joining the band as the new drummer.

Freese is a veteran in the music industry, having been a member of Devo since 1996 and the Vandals since 1989 as well as touring with the likes of the Offspring, Guns N’ Roses, Danny Elfman, Weezer, Sting, Paramore, Nine Inch Nails and 100 Gecs.

The Foo Fighters had previously admitted that they wouldn't be the same band they had been with Hawkins, but that they would still continue to perform.

“Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were,” the Foo Fighters said. “And without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward.”
