Cameron Diaz explained why she took a 10 year break from acting before coming out of retirement

Cameron Diaz revealed why she decided to take a decade long break from acting.

Known for her roles in The Holiday, Charlie's Angels and Bad Teacher, Diaz was one of the most recognisable actors in the early 2000s.

However, she would make the decision to step back from her career in 2014, after releasing the films The Other Woman, Sex Tape, and Annie that year.

In the following eight years, Diaz, 52, had largely vanished from the limelight, excluding a handful of health book projects and a guest appearance as a judge on the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in 2022.

A decade on from her original decision and Diaz is now back in Hollywood once more.

Her decision to come out of retirement was originally teased back in June 2022, when it was announced that she would be starring alongside her Annie co-star Jamie Foxx in action comedy flick Back in Action.

The film won't be a one off for the actor either, who is also reported to star in Apple TV+ movie Outcome alongside Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill as well as reprising her role as the voice of Princess Fiona in the upcoming Shrek 5, as per the BBC.

Diaz's decision to make a comeback is one which may have surprised fans as she had previously revealed that she'd left the industry to focus on building a family.

The Mask star tied the knot with Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden back in 2015, before going on to welcome a their first child, a daughter named Raddix, in December 2019.

They would later welcome their second child, a son named Cardinal, earlier this year.

Speaking about her decision to retire, she told Yahoo Finance back in 2021: "[To] be married and have our little nucleus of a family, it’s just completely the best thing.

"I don’t have what it takes to give making a movie what it needs to be made. All of my energy is here."

So why did Diaz decide to make a return to acting? Well, it turns out it had a lot to do with the working relationship she had with Foxx.

Speaking about their collaboration on Back in Action with Entertainment Tonight, he said: "Cameron is such an incredible force and she has done so much in this business. We love her. We had to be very innovative in how we, you know, brought her back."

Revealing how he managed to do that, Foxx added that he asked her 'Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!' which he believes was enough to bring her back to it.

Rumours would later circulate that Foxx's alleged on-set behaviour had supposedly caused her to 'quit acting' once again, however, Diaz was quick to set the reports straight in an episode of Molly Sims' Lipstick on the Rim podcast.

"I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time," she said.

"Jamie is, like, the cheerleader for the entire crew. Everybody loves him. We have so much fun on the set with him, and he's just a professional on every level. Jamie is the best. I love that guy so much. He's such a special person and he's so talented, so much fun."

She also added that she'd spoke to Foxx about it, to which he said: "We know the truth."

Netflix shares first look at Cameron Diaz's first role in 10 years after actor came out of retirement
Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx star together in a new Netflix film.

Netflix has finally shared a first look at Cameron Diaz's return to the big screen in what will be her first role in 10 years.

Amid retirement plans, last year it was reported that Diaz had been filming in Atlanta, Georgia, for her an upcoming Netflix movie alongside Jamie Foxx.

This comes after the White House Down star, 55, made his first public appearance in December after being hospitalised earlier in the year due to health complications.

Foxx was in LA to accept the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association's Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements event.

"I've been through some things," Foxx said. "It's crazy; I couldn't do that six months ago. I couldn't actually walk."

"It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It's different.

"I wouldn't wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it's tough when it's almost over. ... I saw the tunnel. I didn't see the light. It was hot in that tunnel, too; I don't know where I was going'."

Now, the new comedy flick - titled Back In Action - will mark Diaz's return to acting, despite having plans to retire.

Her last on-screen role was a decade ago in the 2014 Annie, again alongside Foxx.

Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Diaz said: “I did that for so long, it’s kind of like the process, I kind of just fell back into it. But it feels a little bit different.

“The last movie I made was Annie with Jamie, and so the first movie back is this film with Jamie.

“He’s so great, he’s so easy, he’s so professional, he’s so talented, and just being able to work with him.”

Earlier today (1 February) Netflix provided us with our first look at the movie with a suited and booted photo of the pair.

"Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx star in BACK IN ACTION – coming later this year to Netflix," they said on X.

"Years after giving up life in the CIA to start a family, these former spies are dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Also starring Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, and Jamie Demetriou."

Foxx previously revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he persuaded Diaz to come out of retirement.

"Cameron is such an incredible force and she has done so much in this business," he said.

"We love her. So it was literally, 'Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!' And I think that's what brought her to it," he told the outlet.

"We miss special moments sometimes in our business, and I think this is a special moment.

"So we're so happy that it's happening and looking forward to it."Featured Image Credit: Netflix / James Devaney/WireImage

Margot Robbie reveals she’s taking a break from acting
Margot Robbie was inescapable last year thanks to Barbie

Suicide Squad, The Wolf of Wall Street, Babylon, Focus, Bombshell… the list goes on. Those films all have one major thing in common – they feature the star of last year’s Barbie craze.

I’m talking about Margot Robbie, obviously.

The Aussie has had quite the decade of major movies and award nominations and was also named one of the world’s highest-paid actresses by Forbes in 2019.

And after being so booked and busy, the actor has now revealed she’s taking a break from acting.

Yeah, let that sink in a second.

After beginning her career on Neighbours, Robbie had her big breakthrough when she featured in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

She’s then starred in an array of projects before the Barbie movie made more than a billion dollars at the box office, her highest-grossing release.

It’s safe to say that Robbie is now a household name but we might not be seeing her on our screens for a little while.

The star told Deadline it’s ‘already been more than a year’ since she was ‘on set as an actor’.

With the craze of Barbie inescapable last year, Robbie said: “I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while.

“Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”

Although, it’s not exactly a total break from the big screen.

The star continues working as a producer – her production company LuckyChap Entertainment produced the recent hit Saltburn.

Robbie added: “Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break'.”

She’s also hoping to direct something, which she says she’s wanted to do for ‘about the last seven years’.

“But I’ve always seen it as a privilege, not a right,” the star explained.

“I’ve been slowly working towards the feeling that I’ve earned the right to direct, and I feel I’m getting close to that feeling now.”

She’s ‘not in any rush’ to do it but admitted: “I definitely have that itch, and it’s growing too strong. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to hold off.”

So, it might be a break from Robbie’s face being all over billboards but not necessarily her work.Featured Image Credit: Warner Brothers/Universal

Cameron Diaz Is Coming Out Of Retirement To Star In New Netflix Film
Jamie Foxx announced the news with a hilarious audio recording

Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement to star in a new film with Jamie Foxx - and it's called Back in Action, no less.

In 2018, the There's Something About Mary star announced she was stepping away from acting to focus on other aspects of life including her family and her home.

The 49-year-old starred in a slew of hit Hollywood movies throughout her acting career, including The Mask, Charlie's Angels and Vanilla Sky.

Her retirement came as a blow to her fans, so they'll no doubt welcome the news that she's making a comeback for the upcoming Netflix movie.

20th Century Fox
As reported by Variety, the film is an action-comedy which reunites Diaz and Foxx, who previously worked together on the 1999 flick Any Given Sunday and the 2014 Annie remake.

Foxx himself announced the news on Twitter by sharing a recording of a conversation between him, his co-star and Tom Brady, the NFL player who famously retired from the American football league earlier this year, only to go back on his decision shortly after.

In the clip, Diaz expresses that she's 'excited' but 'nervous' while speaking to the Django Unchained star.

He reassures her, saying: "I understand. Listen, I got somebody on the other line that can help you with this."

Foxx brings in Brady - much to Diaz's surprise - who explains, "I was talking to Jamie and he said you needed a few tips on how to un-retire," before quipping, "I'm relatively successful at un-retiring."

Diaz laughs, adding, "Honestly, exactly what I needed."

Alongside the audio recording, Foxx wrote: "Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with @NetflixFilm."

Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with

He went on to confirm that production for Back in Action will kick off later this year.

The post has received dozens of comments, with many praising Foxx's indirect marketing ploy.

"A+ marketing for this movie... no notes," wrote one. "No clue what it’ll be about but I’m seeing it based on this alone."

Others were just excited to see Diaz coming back, including this person who said: "So surprised she is coming back! When I saw her great interview with @KevinHart4real, she looked so happy with her decision to retire. Looking forward to this one!"

"The 2000s it girl is back," said another, with a fourth adding, "Cameron Diaz is coming back y’all."

Caroline Aherne had a sad final Gogglebox request before she died
The beloved actor and comedian died in 2016 after a battle with lung cancer

The Royle Family and Gogglebox star Craig Cash once revealed the final ‘sweet’ request his long-time collaborator Caroline Aherne asked of him before she passed away.

Beloved actor and comedian Aherne tragically passed away back in 2016 at the age of 52, two years after she was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Aherne is, of course, best known for portraying Denise Royle in the iconic BBC sitcom, where she also worked as a writer, director and producer.

Her career spanned 26 years, seeing her star in projects such as The Mrs Merton Show and The Fast Show.

Aherne's final work would see her narrating the long running Channel 4 series Gogglebox, a role which her close friend and The Royle Family co-star Craig Cash would later take over after her death.

He later revealed in an interview with the Radio Times that Aherne had personally asked him to fill for her during periods where she was too ill to work.

Cash was more than happy to help out his friend - as fans will know, the 63-year-old voiced Gogglebox on and off between 2013 and 2015, before taking over full-time in 2016.

Reflecting on the request, and the decision to take over full-time after her death, Cash said: "In November 2013, when she was gravely ill with cancer, Caroline asked if I'd narrate Gogglebox when she wasn't up to it.

"Of course, I said yes; it was a very sad time and I wanted to do right by her and by the programme. Caroline was well and then unwell, well and unwell, so I filled in whenever she needed me to."

Cash has previously said the show feels like a ‘gift’ from his late friend and writing partner.

"It was really lovely, because it feels like a gift she has left me and I'm very grateful," he said. "It felt like only natural I should keep doing it and I feel like she's with me sometimes.

"When I go in the studio where we used to record it, I can feel her presence sometimes.

"That feels a bit weird but true."

A documentary celebrating Aherne’s life - titled Caroline Aherne: Queen of Comedy - aired on the BBC on Christmas Day last year, featuring those who knew her best, including Cash.

In one particularly emotional part, Cash recalled the moment he was told Aherne had just months left to live.

“I was just in denial,” he said. “I just kept saying, ‘no’, just kept repeating, ‘no’. There’s a lot to be said for denial.

“And she was like, ‘but we had some laughs though didn’t we, Cashy?’”

Cash became tearful remembering the interaction and had to leave the interview to give himself a moment.
